Power BI and Teams

The way we work had changed radically. It is more connected, collaborative, and often done remotely. Organisations are looking for ways to help everyone infuse data into every decision. This is where Power BI integrations for Microsoft Teams come into their own make it easier to discover and use data within your environments.

These capabilities enable you to:

  1. Find and view data faster without leaving Microsoft Teams
  2. Collaborate with your colleagues and share insights.
  3. Create and support a culture of using data to make better and more business focused decisions.

Teams of colleagues work together in channels, chats, and meetings to achieve their group objectives. There are various steps you can take to improve a culture of using data in decision making to increase agility.

Add reviewing reports and dashboards to meeting agendas. Groups can spend time in meetings reviewing key metrics. Showing individuals how their work affects key metrics can encourage the team to prioritise their actions to achieve the desired results. Keeping this consistently reviewed in meetings can help the team work effectively with data.

Add reports to channels as tabs. Since many staff work and discuss in channels, adding reports into a channel helps everyone in the team quickly find the data they need. This is especially helpful when onboarding new teammates or stakeholders.

Add reports within Chat in Microsoft Teams. Sometimes there is so much happing within a team that it’s hard to find reports you need. However, it is often easier to remember conversations you had about data. Sending links in chat during meetings and in group chats, can help everyone find the reports and dig deeper to find their own data insights easily. The Power BI message extension allows links to be shared in the chat, then in the search integration just mention @Power BI to find your recent reports and open them.
